The
Drive to the Mission
We got up at 6am and returned at 630 pm. It was a long
day but worth it.
Going to the mission was on my list of must see when in
Brazil. After today I should be able to check that off my own list.
Just some of my random thoughts as I sat in a car for 7 plus hours.
To get to the mission you needed to take a 3 to 4 hour
car ride (each way). We also decided to stop, a local gem mine, in a city
called Wanda, but before talking about the gem mine. My thoughts on the ride
combined; back and forth to the mission.
Within a few minutes I thought I was back in Canada. Our
drive to Quetico ( Nick and I in early part of July) once we crossed the border
into Canada from the US we saw lots of trucks hauling cut pine tree.
Once we crossed the border from Brazil to Argentina I saw
lots of trucks hauling pine trees, the same type you could not tell the
difference.
Talking with our guide she informed us (Peter and I) that
only 40% of the natural growth was left and in fact they had Canadian pine
trees.
The next thought was the poverty I saw it was very
similar to Honduras and parts of the states, with shacks, just a shame. Like
going through the back country in the states.
Now this was something I did not expect, lots of statues
of The Virgin Mother, Jesus, and the Holy family, right out in front of the
house for all to see and drop off flowers and candles. This was not because
somebody died at that spot, it was just honoring them.
The country side was beautiful, even though it was a cold
and rainy ride so pictures did not turn out great. Our guide was great sharing facts about the
area and the history and her people; she was Argentinian.
The road we took was 12 the main rode very good road.
